Chile is party to the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Hague Adoption Convention). Intercountry adoption processing in Hague countries is done in accordance with the requirements of the Convention; as well as the implementing legislation and regulations of Chile.
The profiles of children who are up for inter-country adoption are the following:
- Children over the age of 5;
- Sibling groups;
- Children under the age of 5 with health problems or being part of a sibling group; and
- Children with emotional, psychological and social needs.
The Chilean Central Authority only accepts adoption applications from married heterosexual couples.
